MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Tuesday, October 22, said it has begun “disciplinary procedures” against two of its employees caught playing video games while at work.

In a tweet, POEA administrator Hans Leo Cacdac also said he takes “full responsibility” for the employees’ actions at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2.

“Disciplinary procedures have been commenced,” Cacdac said, without elaborating.

The Facebook page “Filipino’s Patriotism” on Sunday, October 20, posted a photo of the two employees at the NAIA. It credited the blog fashionpulis.com for the photo.

“Hala, totoo ba eto? (Is this true?) NAIA employees playing at work,” Filipino’s Patriotism said.

“Kaya naboboto sa worst airport… tapos suplada pa kapag (nagpa-assist) ka,” it added. (That’s why it gets voted as the worst airport… then they’re snobbish when you ask for assistance.)

The post has gone viral, drawing angry comments from netizens. It has over 5,300 shares and over 1,900 likes as of posting time.

The Asia-Pacific magazine The Diplomat even carried a story on the viral post.

“In the photo, two women can be seen sitting at a desk with what appears to be a puzzle game open on their desktops. In the background, a long line of passengers wait to reach an adjacent window. It is unclear whether the women were taking a break or if they were supposed to be assisting travelers,” The Diplomat blogger J. T. Quigley said.

The photo came out less than a week after a travel site, “The Guide to Sleeping in Airports,” rated NAIA Terminal 1 as the world’s worst airport for 2013. READ: NAIA-1 rated world’s worst airport again.
