Manila city gov’t allows construction of controversial condo

Despite the proposed Torre de Manila’s flagrant violations of the city’s zoning ordinances, the city government reversed itself on the condominium project of DMCI Homes. It approved the development, which will be 7 times higher than the allowable height of buildings in the area. It will also ruin the sightline of the historic Rizal monument in Luneta Park. An online petition has been launched to stop the construction, but Mayor Joseph Estrada reportedly doesn’t want to scare future investors with too strict zoning requirements.
