The Palarong Pambansa 2012 formally ended on Saturday, May 13, with the National Capital Region (NCR) being declared as over-all champion. The last day of the games however was slightly marred by a “protest” by the Central Visayas delegation during the secondary-boys volleyball finals versus NCR, prompting both teams to “boycott” the awarding ceremony of this particular event. Overall, DepEd said it is impressed with this year’s hosting of the country’s biggest sports event by Pangasinan, calling it as a “benchmark” for future Palaro games. More than winning medals and setting records (at least 10 were made this year), DepEd pointed out that the different inspiring stories of athletes – winners and losers alike – will serve as primary motivator for many for the country’s sports development.
