MANILA, Philippines – No more storm this year, the weather bureau gave assurances on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011. But expect rains in Luzon and Eastern Visayas during the New Year weekend.

 

After tropical storm “Sendong” (Washi), there will be no more cyclone in the last week of 2011, according to the  Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services.

 

But PAGASA administrator Nathaniel Servando said the northeast monsoon may still bring rain to parts of Luzon and Eastern Visayas during the New Year weekend.

 

“Wala na kaming nakikitang namumuong sama ng panahon na maaring pumasok sa Philippine area of responsibility at maging ganap na bagyo. Mukhang ‘Sendong’ na ang huling bagyo sa taong ito (We see no more cyclone that will enter the Philippine area of responsibility for the remainder of 2011. It appears ‘Sendong’ is the last for the year),” he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

 

He said a low-pressure area off Mindanao is now interacting with the land mass and is not expected to intensify into a cyclone.

 

While Servando said this could still trigger flash floods and landslides, it is likely to eventually dissipate.

 

On the other hand, Servando said the weekend will likely be rainy in some areas of the country due to the northeast monsoon. – Rappler.com
