Bomb threat: Classes suspended until MSU-IIT is cleared
Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology has yet to be cleared since receiving a bomb threat Monday afternoon

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Hundreds of students of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology were evacuated after the university received a bomb threat Monday afternoon, September 22.

Police Superintendent Gervacio Balmaceda, public information officer of Iligan police, said the university received a text message claiming that an explosive was planted inside the campus.

Classes were immediately suspended, as students, teachers, and school employees fled to safer grounds.

There are still no explosives recovered as of posting. Classes will remain suspended until the campus is fully searched and declared safe.

Meanwhile, the city’s bomb squad was immediately deployed to search and disable the alleged explosives.

“Our EOD is still scouring the area for explosives. It was good that the school immediately evacuated the students because threats like this must be treated seriously,” Balmaceda said.

The police official added that they are also trying to trace the source of the text.

“We are still investigating to identify the people and motive behind the threat,” Balmaceda said. – Rappler.com
