The DILG chief will be going to the province on Friday
MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday, January 5, ordered an investigation into the landslide in Pantukan, Compostela Valley that killed at least 25 people.
In a text message to reporters, Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the President has asked Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo to go to the area on Friday, January 6, to look into the causes of the disaster.
According to Gov. Arturo Uy, upon the recommendation of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, the miners started vacating the area but eventually returned.
Small-scale mining has enriched the province but has also caused tragedy there.
