PH thanks FBI for confirming Marwan’s death
(UPDATED) The Philippine embassy receives the FBI information through police attaché Chief Supt. Jose Gentiles

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Philippine embassy in Washington DC thanked the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for its report confirming the death of top Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) top terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir, better known as “Marwan”.

Marwan was killed in the January 25 SAF operations in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. (READ details of the FBI report: DNA tests confirm Marwan’s death)

“We wish to thank the FBI for its assistance in confirming what Philippine authorities have been saying all along – that the Malaysian bombmaker Marwan has finally been eliminated,” Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr said in a statement released Wednesday, January 4 (Thursday in Manila).

“It heartens us to know that the sacrifice of the 44 men who never came back from Mamasapano was not in vain,” Cuisia added.

In Manila, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas released a copy of the FBI report on Thursday, February 5. “The SAF got their man,” Roxas said in a statement. He ordered Acting PNP chief Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina to provide the families of the slain policemen copies of the FBI report.

The SAF operation is the bloodiest in recent history – killing 44 elite cops, 17 Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters, and several civilians. It’s a big operation led by the US-trained SAF Seaborne Unit that was tasked to neutralize Marwan. They cut his finger and sent a “sample” to the FBI for DNA testing.
