Senator-judges hold caucus

The senators want to resolve motions of both sides before 2pm

MANILA, Philippines – Senate Majority Leader Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said the Senate will tackle all four motions relating to the impeachment trial today, Monday, January 16. 

In an interview before the Senate resumed session, Sotto said the senators will tackle the motions in a caucus at 11:30 am. 
 
“The idea is to resolve all of them so that when the impeachment court convenes, we are ready to dispose of the motions.” 
 
The four motions are:
1) Defense motion to hold a preliminary hearing on the validity of the impeachment complaint
2) Defense motion to sanction prosecutors for discussing evidence before the trial starts
3) Defense motion to summon Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Chief Prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr. and four other members of the House of Representatives (in relate to motion 1)
4) Prosecution motion to summon Chief Justice Renato Corona, his wife and their children to discuss their properties. 
 
The impeachment trial will open at 2pm today. It is still unclear if Corona will be present. – Rappler.com
