11 years ago, prosecutors walked out

MANILA, Philippines – Cavite Rep Jose Emilio Abaya, manager of the prosecution in the Corona impeachment trial, says he sees parallelisms between this year’s impeachment trial with the trial held in 2000.

While prosecutors in the impeachment trial of former President Joseph Estrada  walked out then — in protest of the vote against the opening of the “second envelope” that supposedly contained important evidence against Estrada — a new set of prosecutors is walking in.

Abaya says they will try to keep the trial devoid of politics and will strive to keep the public informed.

The prosecutors are mandated by the people to go through this poliitical process, Abaya says. – Rappler.com
