Filipinos should welcome China’s aggression in the face of a territorial dispute, because it has galvanized nationalism and made their government recognize the value of broadening alliances, according to a Southeast Asian expert. Appearing on #TalkThursday, Zachary Abuza cited the Philippines’ efforts to strengthen ties with the US and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
Tapping allies will help the Philippines because it can hardly match the Chinese military, he said.
