MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday morning, July 21, raised Signal No 1 over 11 provinces as tropical depression Ferdie slightly accelerated.

In its 5 a.m. update, Pagasa placed the following provinces under the storm warning signal:

  • Calayan Group of Islands  
  • Babuyan Group of Islands 
  • Batanes Group of Islands 
  • Kalinga 
  • Apayao 
  • Abra 
  • Ilocos Norte 
  • Ilocos Sur

Ferdie is estimated at 90 km north northwest of Laoag City as of 7 a.m., Pagasa said. It packs maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, moving in a west northwest direction at 15 kph.

Pagasa forecasts Ferdie at 270 km west northwest of Laoag City by Sunday morning, and 590 km west northwest of Laoag City by Monday morning.

Aside from Ferdie, another low pressure area was spotted 95 km west southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.
