Mayor won’t reopen Cebu City night market due to pandemic

Ryan Macasero

Mayor Edgar Labella said he would not reopen the Cebu City night market in the downtown area due to the COVID-19 risk.

“I will deny the request [to reopen] the night market,” Labella told reporters on Monday, November 23.

The night market, which has been closed since the coronavirus outbreak began, is a popular place for residents to go Christmas shopping. But the mayor is concerned that the market would get too crowded and it would be “impossible” to enforce physical distancing.
