OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines – Incumbent Olongapo City Vice Mayor Rolen Paulino barged into the premises of Gordon College and broke down the door to the president’s office Sunday, May 12.
Paulino, who is running for mayor, claimed he saw people affiliated with the local government-funded college buying votes for his rival Anne Marie Gordon.
Paulino admitted he was the one who destroyed the door but defended himself saying he was sure his opponent’s camp was “buying votes here.”
But Gordon college president Arlinda Pame told Rappler that she was working in her office at about 7:00 pm when the intrusion happend.
Pame said she was discharging her usual duties as president of the college when the incident took place. She said charges will be filed against Paulino.
Anne Gordon is the wife of outgoing Mayor James Gordon, who is running for congressman of the first district of Zambales.
Olongapo City has 109,053 registered voters with 17 barangays and 22 voting centers. It is one of the 12 metropolitan areas in the Philippines. – Rappler.com
