Rappler Talk: Where’s the end to drugs and crime?
Rappler sits down with newly installed Philippine National Police chief General Guillermo Eleazar. We ask him: Is President Duterte's promise to end drugs and crime still possible?

President Rodrigo Duterte has one year left in office, yet his promise of eradicating drugs and crime is still far from reach.

While crime has declined, drug lords remain at large, and killings have not stopped. Deaths in police operations continue to rise. The Department of Justice released a damning report detailing how police have been violating protocols in Duterte’s prized “war” against illegal drugs.

Police have also arrested thousands of alleged quarantine violators during the coronavirus pandemic.

Amid these, Duterte appointed Guillermo Eleazar as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) – his preferred agency to enforce his campaigns.

Eleazar is set to retire in November 2021, a time of transition into the election period and when the Duterte administration wraps up its leadership.

Rappler’s Rambo Talabong sits down with Eleazar in this episode of Rappler Talk to ask him what he hopes to achieve in 6 months.
