It’s been two years since the Bangsamoro Organic Law was ratified and a new region in Mindanao created. Rappler reporter Pia Ranada speaks to Bangsamoro Interior Minister Naguib Sinarimbo on what the region’s transitional government has accomplished so far and what’s left to do in the one year and 5 months until their mandate ends. 

The coronavirus pandemic, backlog in hiring government personnel, and delays in turnover of government offices have led Bangsamoro officials to ask for an extension of their time in power. Sinarimbo says the extension would give them enough time to build a government “felt by the people.”
