Tatad, Drilon tiff over trial

MANILA, Philippines – During a break in Day 4 of the Corona impeachment, former Senator Francisco Tatad, who was in the audience gallery, approached Senator-Juror Frank Drilon, “purposely to greet him” but eventually figured in an “incident.”

“I came up to Sen. Drilon and told him that he’s doing a good job,” Tatad told reporters after emerging from the plenary hall. “I also told him that he seems to be acting like for the prosecution.”

Apparently, Sen. Drilon did not take ex-Sen. Tatad’s comments lightly.

According to Tatad, the senator-juror sounded defensive and blurted out, “Why? What is your problem? Go side with the defense and try to disqualify me.”

After the hearing adjourned around 6pm, Drilon was mobbed by reporters to get his version of his brush with Tatad.

“I don’t want to talk about that incident. I’d rather prefer that we talk about the impeachment trial,” said Drilon.

Despite the media’s persistence, Drilon repeatedly evaded answering questions about the “incident” with Tatad.

“Sen Drilon and I have very good relations for a long time, personally and professionally,” Tatad pointed out, “I won’t let an incident like that affect our friendship.” – Rappler.com
