Typhoon Ferdie leaves PH Area of Responsibility
MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Ferdie (Meranti) left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 14.
In its bulletin issued 2 pm on Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said Ferdie was already 315 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes, moving northwest at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h).
Though Ferdie is already out of PAR, signal number 1 remains raised in Batanes. Moderate to heavy rain is still expected within the typhoon's 600-km diameter.
Ferdie had made landfall in Itbayat, Batanes at 12:15 am on Wednesday. The province was placed under signal number 4 at the height of the typhoon.
Communication lines in Batanes were cut off as Ferdie brought heavy rain and strong winds.
Meanwhile, PAGASA is also monitoring Typhoon Gener (Malakas).
