MANILA, Philippines – State weather bureau PAGASA warned parts of Luzon to brace for moderate to heavy rain on Friday, September 1, a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha.

The southwest monsoon will bring rain and gusty winds to the Ilocos Region, the provinces of Batanes and Zambales, and the Babuyan Group of Islands. These areas should watch out for possible flash floods and landslides.

There will also be light to heavy rain due to thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Cordillera, and Central Luzon, as well as the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.

The rest of the country will have isolated rainshowers as well.

Coastal waters throughout the Philippines will be moderate to rough.

Meanwhile, the low pressure area (LPA) that PAGASA was monitoring has intensified into a tropical depression, but it already left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). This tropical depression is 270 kilometers northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

PAGASA also continues to keep an eye on Severe Tropical Storm Sanvu, which is 2,185 kilometers east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, outside PAR. Based on its forecast track, Sanvu will not affect the country.
