Flashfloods, cancelled classes as heavy rain hits Metro

MANILA, Philippines – Flooding has been reported in parts of Metro Manila due to thunderstorms mid-afternoon Thursday, June 13.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the thunderstorm, which was reported at around 3 pm, is affecting portions of the capital region, specifically Dasmarinas, Mandaluyong, Makati, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, CAMANAVA, Baclaran, Quezon City, Pasay & Manila.

The rains “may persist for 1-2 hours and expected to affect nearby areas within 2-3 hours,” the bureau said.

At least 5 schools and universities in Metro Manila suspended classes on Thursday afternoon due to heavy rain and flooding in some areas.

The bureau is also warning residents of the Ilocos provinces, Pangasinan, Zambales, Tarlac, and Bataan of thunderstorms which may persist for several hours.

“All are advised to take precautionary measures against heavy rains, gusty winds, lightning strikes and possible flashfloods,” the bureau added.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has reported flooding in parts of España, EDSA, and Taft avenues as of posting time. – Rappler.com
