Maring still inside PH; Monsoon over west Luzon

MANILA, Philippines – Tropical storm Maring (international codename Trami) will continue to hover east of Batanes Tuesday, August 20, affecting the monsoon forecast to bring rain throughout the country.

Maring was spotted 580 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 pm Monday, August 19, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 90 km/h.

The storm is forecast to move east at 7 km/h, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its latest weather bulletin.

There are no storm warning signals raised due to the storm.

Monsoon rain will in the forecast for the following areas Tuesday:

• Metro Manila
• Ilocos region
• Central Luzon
• Calabarzon
• Benguet
• Occidental Mindoro
• Panay island

Residents in these areas should be on the lookout for flash floods or landslides.

Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga peninsula, the rest of Luzon and the Visayas will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, accompanied by isolated rain.
