MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Some 10,000 persons are in at least 50 government evacuation centers in Luzon, as of Sunday Oct 13, 2:00 pm, after Typhoon Santi (international name Nari) hit parts of Luzon.

In the province of Aurora, where the typhoon made landfall on Friday evening, over 2,000 families from 19 villages sought temporary shelter in government centers.

At 7 am on Saturday, 174 families were evacuated to 7 evacuation centers in Region 2. 

At least 52 residents in low-lying areas were preemptively evacuated to the municipal building of Sual in Pangasinan province as of 8 am, Saturday. By 4 pm, the evacuees returned to their homes.

Nueva Vizcaya opened 4 evacuation centers with 432 residents as of 6 pm, Saturday.

55 residents in the 3 villages of Nueva Ecija province affected by Typhoon Santi have evacuated to government centers as of 9 am, Saturday.

The DSWD Field Office III also reported that 22, 334 houses were damaged in Central Luzon.

A statement released by the DSWD on Sunday morning reported that “59,124 families with 271,091 persons coming from the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Bulacan have been affected by TS ‘Santi.’ Of this number, 2,255 families or 10,018 persons are in evacuation centers.”

Some 8,000 family food packs worth P2.04 million were transported by 3 trucks of the World Food Programme from the DSWD-National Resource Operations Center (NROC) in Pasay City to DSWD-Field Office III to be distributed to affected areas in the region.

To date, DSWD’s total amount of assistance to Central Luzon (Region III) is P1,451,488.86.
