MANILA, Philippines – Stormy weather is in the forecast for parts of northern Luzon Friday, November 1, as typhoon Vinta (international codename Krosa) crosses the area.

Typhoon Vinta made landfall over Santa Ana, Cagayan, at 4:45 pm Thursday, October 31, state weather bureau PAGASA said, carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 160 km/h.

Vinta is expected to cross northern Luzon Thursday evening, and will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday. As of 5 pm Thursday, most of northern Luzon is under storm warning signals.

As Vinta crosses the region, the Ilocos provinces, Isabela, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Cagayan and Batanes will have stormy weather with rough to very rough seas, the bureau said in its 24-hour forecast.

Rains with gusty winds will be experienced in La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora and Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, people across the rest of the archipelago should prepare their umbrellas when visiting their departed loved ones in cemeteries.

The rest of Luzon as well as Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, while the Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by isolated rain later in the day.

Prevailing winds will come from the northeast over the rest of Luzon, while the rest of the country will feel winds coming from the northwest to southwest.
