MANILA, Philippines – Parts of the Visayas and Mindanao will continue to be pounded by heavy rains Thursday, January 16, due to a low pressure area.

The low pressure area was located 140 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, as of 4 pm, state weather bureau PAGASA said in its forecast Wednesday, January 15.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will continue affecting Luzon.

Northern Mindanao, Caraga, and Eastern Visayas are forecast to experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rain and thunderstorms, which could trigger flash floods or landslides, the bureau said.

Bicol, the rest of the Visayas, and remaining areas of Mindanano will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms.

Aurora and the Cagayan Valley region will have cloudy skies with light rain, while the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

There are currently no tropical cyclones within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
