Landslides, floods possible in parts of Luzon on Wednesday

MANILA, Philippines – Monsoon rains in Ilocos region, Zambales and Bataan may trigger landslides and flashfloods on Wednesday, August 6, warned state weather bureau PAGASA.

In the agency’s August 5, 5 pm bulletin, they said that Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience occasional rains. 

Visayas and Mindanao will have fairer weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies bringing only isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Luzon and Visayas can expect moderate to strong winds to blow from the southwest. In Mindanao, moderate to strong winds from the south the southwest will prevail.

Typhoon Jose (international name Halong) has slightly weakened. Spotted 745 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes at 4 pm, Jose’s winds registered speeds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 180 kph.

PAGASA predicts that by Thursday morning, Jose will be 1,090 kilometers northeast of Basco or out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
