MANILA, Philippines – The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation will honor this year’s awardees in an in-person ceremony on Wednesday, November 30.
Established in 1957, the award is considered the region’s premier prize and highest honor, widely known as Asia’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize. It recognizes individuals and organizations “whose selfless service has offered their societies, Asia, and the world successful solutions to some of the most intractable problems of human development.”
The 2022 recipients include:
- Sotheara Chhim (Cambodia), for his mental health advocacy
- Tadashi Hattori (Japan), for his “sight-saving humanitarian” advocacy
- Bernadette Madrid (Philippines), for her children’s right advocacy
- Gary Bencheghib (Indonesia), for his anti-plastic pollution advocacy
