Eduard Folayang shoots for ONE world title in glory-filled Singapore
Eduard Folayang prepares to tangle for the ONE Lightweight world title in Singapore

Eduard Folayang looks to bank on his historic success in Singapore as he aims for the ONE Lightweight world title on October 30.

The Team Lakay star is set to face Antonio ‘The Spartan” Caruso in one of the featured undercards of ONE: Inside The Matrix at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, where he’s confident that he’ll replicate the previous victory that he had in the country.

Nag-start palagi iyan sa Singapore (It always starts in Singapore),” Folayang said in the weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) forum on Tuesday, October 20.

Napaka-importante nito para sa ‘kin, sa team ko, and sa bayan na rin kasi gusto natin makuha ‘yung belt for the third time and it always starts in Singapore because maganda ang experiences natin doon.”

(To get the belt for the third time is really important for me, my team, and the country and it always starts in Singapore because I had good experiences there.)

Folayang started to make a name for himself in international circuits in Singapore as he went from being an unbeaten mix martial artist to headlining the first ever ONE event in 2011.

In the same venue in 2016, he pulled off the biggest win of his career, a third-round TKO over highly-touted Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki to win the ONE Lightweight world title for the first time.

He currently has 6-1 record in the stadium and his head coach Mark Sangiao is confident he will improve on that standing after this event.

“We’re claiming this! We’re claiming Eduard to be the lightweight champion again. I believe in him, and for as long as the fire is still there, I believe he can still do it,” said Sangiao.

According to Sangiao, Folayang has been staying active since the Philippines was put under lockdown since March.

Despite the uncertainty, Folayang never lost sight of his goals as he stayed disciplined to prepare for the return of ONE championship.

Now that the call finally came, Sangiao knows that Folayang is 100% ready.

Marami pa tayong pagdadaanan until that fight night, pero physically, mentally, and spiritually, 100% ready na ito,” said Sangiao.

(We’re still going through a lot until fight night, but Eduard is 100% ready physically, mentally, and spiritually.)

Folayang echoed his coach’s sentiments and promised his fans to expect nothing but the best from him at the end of October.

“‘Andito na ‘yung preparations natin, nakapag-prepare naman nang maayos and we’re just praying na maging fruitful ‘yung ginawa natin para dito,” Folayang shared.
