Pacquiao-Mayweather basketball charity game in the works in Vegas

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather figured in boxing’s richest fight ever on May 2, 2015.

After several tries for a rematch between the legendary fighters failed to materialize, they are eager to meet again, not in the ring but on the hardcourt this time.

Mayweather, who retired unbeaten in 2017,  and the recently retired Pacquiao, the sport’s only eight-division world champion, are keen on a charity basketball game being eyed for December in a yet to be determined venue in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Apart from their love for boxing, Pacquiao and Mayweather are both passionate about basketball.

Mayweather plays the game and at one time announced his plan to own an NBA franchise.

Pacquiao, of course, is known for playing four straight games without relief, owning amateur teams, having a brief PBA career, and is the founder and CEO of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

Though a date has yet to be set, the charity game is planned before Pacquiao’s 43rd birthday on December 17.

Under the proposed setup, Pacquiao and Mayweather will each assemble a 10-man team, including two ex-NBA players.

Pacquiao and Mayweather are both on the same page regarding the novel and noble project at MGM Grand Garden Arena, the same venue where Mayweather bested Pacquiao by unanimous decision in a fight that drew 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and $600 (P30 billion) in gross revenue.

Pacquiao intends to use his share of the proceeds to help destitute Filipinos by way of his Manny Pacquiao Foundation. – Rappler.com
