MANILA, Philippines – Kevin Garnett is coming home.

After seven and a half seasons away from the team that drafted him 5th overall during the 1995 NBA Draft, “The Big Ticket” is returning to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

NBA.com’s David Aldridge reported that the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to send the big man back to the Wolves in exchange for forward Thaddeus Young during the wildly busy NBA trade deadline on Friday, February 20.

KG waived his no-trade clause in order for the deal to push through.

Garnett spent his first 12 seasons in the league with the Timberwolves, bagging the NBA Season MVP award in 2004. After failing to steer the team to a championship, he was traded to the Boston Celtics where he teamed up with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to create Boston’s Big 3. That Boston team won the 2008 NBA Championship under the guidance of head coach Doc Rivers.

The veteran big man could start alongside 2014 first overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins at the forward spots and should be able to provide the young Canadian cager the mentorship he needs to take his game to the next level.

The 38-year-old Garnett is averaging 6.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 0.3 blocks per game this season with the Brooklyn Nets. He has career averages of 18.3 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.

Young, 26, is averaging 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists this season and scored a season-high 29 points against the Washington Wizards on December 16, 2014.

The Wolves are currently the second worst team in the league at 11-42 while Brooklyn is second in the weak Atlantic division at 21-31.

Other deals

In other trades, the Portland Trailblazers acquired shooting guard Aaron Afflalo along with forward Alonzo Gee from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forwards Thomas Robinson and Victor Claver and guard Will Barton, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

Denver also sends center JaVale McGee to the Philadelphia 76ers for a first round pick via the Oklahoma City Thunder, also reported by Yahoo Sports.

The Washington Wizards, looking to add speed to their backourt, gave up Andre Miller in exchange for Ramon Sessions from the Sacramento Kings.

More deals are expected to happen involving multiple teams.
