Steph Curry makes it sound so easy: ‘There’s always time to turn it around’

LOS ANGELES, United States – Steph Curry made it sound like a pretty normal thing.

After trailing by as many as 15 points, the Golden State Warriors turned it up again in the second half on the way to beating the Houston Rockets in Game 7 of the NBA West Conference finals. The victory sent the defending champions to a 4th straight championship showdown against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Basketball is a 48-minute game and no matter how badly we played, how many shots we missed, there’s always time to turn it around,” Curry said. “The second half was unbelievable. Happy to be back in the finals,” said Curry. 

Warriors coach Steve Kerr later said there had been no hint of panic at halftime even as the Warriors trailed.

Althoung he did joke about resigning before his team bounced back from a disastrous first half performance. 

“I just tried to remind them that at halftime it was an 11-point game, and that’s two minutes. If we get a couple of stops and a few threes we’re back in it,” Kerr said. 

The Warriors unleashed one of their trademark 3rd-quarter runs as the defending champions outscored the Rockets, 33-15, in the period.

Curry fueled the scoring surge, firing 14 of his 27 points in the 3rd quarter as Kevin Durant also scattered 34 points for the Warriors

Curry fell just a rebound-short of a triple-double after also dishing out 10 assists and grabbing 9 rebounds.

Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni, meanwhile, attempted to put a brave face on a loss which came after his team had battled into a 3-2 lead earlier in the series.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team,” D’Antoni said. “There’s no quit in them. We saw where the bar was this year, but we just couldn’t quite get there.

“We’ll take our summer off and then we’ll try it again next season.”

Rockets ace James Harden, who finished with 32 points, said his team’s second-half performances in Games 6 and 7 had decided the fate of the series.

“One half of basketball. Two games, six and seven. We just didn’t have the same energy that we had in the first half, the pace,” Harden said. “It’s extremely frustrating.” – Rappler.com
