MANILA, Philippines – Kawhi Leonard called game by sinking a game-winner at the buzzer to lift the Toronto Raptors to a wild 92-90 triumph over the Philadephia 76ers in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference semifinals.
Leonard finished with 41 points on 39 shots, but none of his misses mattered as the Raptors reached the conference finals for the second time in franchise history on Sunday, May 12 (Monday, May 13, Philippine time).
Initially guarded by Ben Simmons, Leonard drove hard to the right corner to force Joel Embiid to switch on him before putting up the shot that bounced twice on both sides of the rim before dropping in.
Elsewhere, the Portland Trail Blazers continued to exceed expectations by eliminating the Denver Nuggets with a 100-96 win in Game 7 of their Western Conference semifinals clash.
Swept in the first round of the playoffs for the last two years, the Blazers have turned their pain into lessons as they advanced to the conference finals for the first time since 2000.
The Raptors will face the Milwaukee Bucks while the Blazers will tangle with defending two-time champions Golden State Warriors.
