Jay Washington-Denok Miranda trade now awaiting PBA approval

MANILA, Philippines – A trade between the GlobalPort Batang Pier and Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters that will see veteran players Jay Washington and Denok Miranda switch teams has been signed and is now awaiting approval from the PBA Commissioner’s Office, a source told Rappler.

Assuming the trade pushes through, the Batang Pier will receive a floor-spreading quality big in Washington, who would be in his second tour of duty with the PBA franchise.

The 33-year-old Washington, a former first overall pick in 2005, played 28 games for GlobalPort in the 2013-2014 PBA season and averaged 15.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists a contest.

Washington averaged 7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 47 games last season with the Tropang Texters, who won the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup title.

The addition of Washington, a two-time Best Player of the Conference awardee and 3-time Mythical First Team member, adds a veteran voice to the talented young nucleus of GlobalPort, which is highlighted by reigning Rookie of the Year Stanley Pringle and Most Improved Player of the Year Terrence Romeo.

GlobalPort also acquired veteran scoring guard Joseph Yeo back in July, which made the 33-year-old Miranda expendable. 

The 6-foot Miranda averaged 7.3 points and 2.1 assists in 34 games last season.

The Tropang Texters will be the sixth PBA team he plays for in his career since being drafted 3rd overall in the 2005 PBA Draft by Coca-Cola. – Rappler.com
