Romeo, Pringle tag team as Globalport blasts Blackwater

MANILA, Philippines – Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle combined for 43 points as Globalport Batang Pier blasted Blackwater Elite, 120-105, in the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday, November 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Romeo had a team-high 26 points off the bench to go with 6 rebounds, while Pringle had 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists to lead 5 Batang Pier in double figures.

Big man Doug Kramer finished with a double-double of 16 markers and 15 boards. Joseph Yeo added 14 as Rico Maierhofer contributed 12 points, 10, rebounds, and 4 assists in a game where Globalport’s offense clicked on all cylinders.

“It’s a total team effort,” said head coach Pido Jarencio, whose team ended a two-game slide and improved to 4-3. “We’re 2-0 here in Araneta so we wanted to win today.”

The Batang Pier controlled the game from start to finish as they dominated the boards, 64-49. Globalport shared the wealth with 27 total assists for 46% field goal shooting that led to a 17-point edge over the Elite towards the end.

“Our target is to land from the 3rd to 6th spots in the standings,” Jarencio said in Filipino with only 4 games left in the eliminations.

The Batang Pier’s 120 points is the second most by any team this conference, next only to Alaska’s 123 over Globalport last November 20, according to PBA Head Statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

The team’s offensive output is also its second most in franchise history and an all-time high for the team in the Philippine Cup.

Globalport weathered an explosion from third year guard Carlo Lastimosa, who uncorked a career-high 31 points on 13-of-24 field goals off the bench for a 54% shooting clip.

Lastimosa, who was picked 20th overall pick by Barako Bull in 2013, missed all 3 of his attempts from downtown but added 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Raphy Reyes and Art Dela Cruz registered 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Jerick Cañada added 10 as Blackwater slipped to 1-6, above only the woeful Meralco at 1-7. – Rappler.com
