Hot start powers San Miguel to Game 1 blowout over Ginebra
MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - The San Miguel Beermen went 50% from beyond the arc and raced off to a hot 17-2 start as they kept the Barangay Ginebra at bay, 109-82, in Game 1 of the 2017 PBA Philippine Cup Finals on Friday, February 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The defending champs gained a double-digit cushion early on, stretching the lead on 56% shooting from the field at halftime.
Chris Ross paced San Miguel with 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting coupled with 5 boards and 8 assists.
June Mar Fajardo likewise put up 17 markers, while Alex Cabagnot and Gabby Espinas combined for 32 for the Beermen, who registered 28 dimes compared to Ginebra's 19.
"I'm not really expecting this kind of game," shared SMB head coach Leo Austria.

The Gin Kings, who were limited to 39% shooting with only a single triple made at the half, failed to spark a rally down the stretch.
Chris Ellis led the way for Ginebra with 13 markers and 2 steals, while Jervy Cruz and Mark Caguioa had 12 apiece.
Game 2 of this finals series will take place in Lucena City on Sunday, February 26.
