Suspended Kelly Nabong ‘not too happy with playing time,’ says Black
The Bolts are hoping to sort things out with the Fil-Am big man during his suspension

STA.

LAGUNA, Philippines – Following a rousing 98-74 win over the Star Hotshots in Game 2 of the semis, Meralco Bolts coach Norman Black shed light on Kelly Nabong’s indefinite suspension, saying the forward “is unhappy with his situation” with the team.

Nabong and Meralco assistant coach Jimmy Alapag was at the center of a commotion at their own bench and were caught shouting at each other before they were separated by cooler heads.

The Fil-Am big man ripped his jersey and reportedly did not join huddles after the altercation.

“Obviously, he’s not too happy with his playing time, and you know that’s sad because it’s all about winning now. This is trying to win a championship,” said Black.

Nabong was scoreless in Game 1 against the Hotshots last Sunday and played only 7:24 minutes. He averaged 3.36 points in 11.8 minutes in the elimination round.

“We wanted Kelly to be a part of what’s going on here, but he is unhappy with his situation right now with the team, so we suspended him indefinitely until we can sort it out, ’cause we only had a day to really try to sort things out,” Black said.

Reporters tried to get the side of Alapag, but he wanted to be excused from interviews.

The Bolts are just a win away from a return trip to the Governors’ Cup finals, and Black said they will decide about Nabong’s issue before Game 3 on Thursday, October 5

“Hopefully, by tomorrow, we might be able to make some other decisions on his situation, but right now, he’s suspended indefinitely,” Black said. – Rappler.com
