San Miguel rides Cabagnot's hot hands to thwart Alaska
MANILA, Philippines – Everything clicked for San Miguel as it regained its winning ways in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup with a 119-107 trouncing of Alaska at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday, June 21.
Alex Cabagnot waxed hot for 31 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, while Charles Rhodes dominated inside with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks for the Beermen, who improved to 2-3.
Coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss to Barangay Ginebra barely a week ago, San Miguel made sure it would not suffer the same fate behind a fiery second-quarter pullaway.
The Aces trailed by just 2 points after the maiden period before the Beermen outscored them 36-14 to enter the halftime break sitting on a comfortable 65-41 cushion.
San Miguel saw its advantage swell to as large as 28 points, 71-43, and never had its lead shaved to single digit.
Marcio Lassiter fired 23 points, 7 assists, and 2 steals, Arwind Santos added 15 points, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals, while June Mar Fajardo delivered 14 points and 9 rebounds in the victory.
Chris Banchero paced Alaska – which has now lost back-to-back games for a 4-4 card – with 26 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds, while returning import Chris Daniels put up 23 points and 22 rebounds.
Simon Enciso and Jeron Teng added 18 and 11 points, respectively, in the losing effort.
