PBA to play two Govs Cup games in Dubai
The two games will feature Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and the Globalport Batang Pier
MANILA, Philippines – For its 40th season, the PBA is bringing home closer to its overseas Filipino fans.
The first and oldest professional league in Asia has scheduled a pair of 2015 PBA Governors’ Cup games on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22 at the Al Shabab Al Arari Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The first game will feature a clash between the Globalport Batang Pier and third most popular team Rain or Shine Elasto Painters. In the second game, the most popular ballclub Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will take on Rain or Shine as well.
“Dubai is a very, very hot spot for basketball whether it’s Gilas Pilipinas or the PBA,” said PBA Commissioner Chito Salud. “This plan was hatched back in December and we’re pushing through with it.”
Both games will be aired live on AksyonTV International but will be on delayed telecast on TV5.
This is not the first time the league will play overseas games. The last instance was during the 2012 Commissioner’s Cup, which featured Barako Bull, Rain or Shine, and Barangay Ginebra.
Rain or Shine also played two games, one versus Barako and another also against Ginebra.
“I would like to thank the Rain or Shine management for agreeing to play back-to-back games,” Salud said. “It’s not often that a team in the PBA for a regular season would agree to play back-to-back. It’s very rare.” – Rappler.com
