MANILA, Philippines – Twenty world-class fighters from three combat disciplines battled it out to have their hands raised in victory at the fourth installment of Kun Lun Fight World Tour on Sunday night at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Pasay City.

Four Filipino warriors donned the country’s colors in the 11-fight event that featured six kickboxing bouts, three Muay Thai matches, and two mixed martial arts (MMA) contests.

Philippine kickboxing champion Ryan Jakili made a quick work on former OPBF intercontinental titlist Ou Yang in their 59-kg scuffle as he dazed his Chinese opponent with a high kick and a follow-up overhand right to get the first-round knockout.

In a scheduled three-round Muay Thai meeting at 75 kilograms, Michael Badato stopped veteran Thai pugilist Mokkharat Worawut by technical knockout (TKO).

Even though his effective counterpunching silenced his Filipino foe in the opening salvo, Worawut reached the end of the line in the second stanza, where Badato landed a hard left elbow to open up a huge gash on his right lower eyelid.

With the recommendation from the ringside physician, the referee halted the action at the 42-second mark of the aforementioned round and declared Badato as the winner.

Meanwhile, his brother Reinhard Badato squared off with Wang Wanben in a back-and-forth tussle that resulted into a split draw on the scorecards.

The 27-year-old Fil-Aussie throttled with mid-kicks and an astonishing Superman punch that pushed back his Chinese rival to the ropes.

To silence the striking groove of Badato, Wanben engaged in a clinch game and capitalized the close-quarter distance by nailing knees to the body.

Wanben was determined to convincingly assert his authority in the second round as he stood in front of Badato to clobber with sidekicks and wild hooks.

Sensing the urgency to close out on a good note, Badato threw flurries of blows to the head while scoring body shots to slow down Wanben.

As the third canto came to a finish, the sheets from the judges had it a draw, forcing the Kun Lun Fight officials to set a deciding round to name the victor.

Both men were eager to get the triumph as they traded lashing strikes to each other that sent the crowd inside Solaire’s Grand Ballroom into frenzy.

Despite the attempt to punch an elusive ticket to the Promised Land, the outcome was still the same as longtime fight presenter Ted Lerner announced that thrilling bout settled into a split draw with 39-38, 39-40 and 39-39 counts.

Unfortunately, one Filipino was inopportune not to walk away with the victory as MMA fighter Rochelle Lestino succumbed to Huang Feir of China via first-round armbar submission.

In other contests, Keijiro Miyakoshi successfully defended the World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight championship by outpointing Wei Ninghui.

Wang Kehan wobbled Brazilian kickboxer Taina with his right fist in the second round to pick up a TKO win, while Matthew Richardson toyed Tang Yunxing in a marquee MMA match-up at 75 kilograms.

On the other hand, 29-year-old Changpuak Jetsada edged out 5-foot-6 Skylr Penna by split decision in a three-round 70-kg kickboxing showcase.

Another highlight of the fight card was the four-man kickboxing tournament as Massinissa Hamaili replaced the original finalist Sergio Kenneth, who beat him earlier in the first phase and opted to withdraw due to a rib injury, to prevail the grueling competition.

The 6-foot-1 Frenchman captured the Kun Lun Fight 95-kg belt by knocking out Ivan Bartek, who defeated Yin Pengsen to be in the finals, with a spinning back-fist. – Rappler.com
