Golovkin visits Pacquiao in training camp
MANILA, Philippines – On his fifteenth day in training camp, Manny Pacquiao received a surprise visit from world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California.
In a post by Ring Magazine on Instagram, the 32-year-old Kazakh had the chance to take a photo with Pacquiao, who is currently busy in preparing for his much-anticipated ring encounter against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2 (May 3 in PH) at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Golovkin (32-0, 29 knockouts), who is widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world alongside Pacquiao and Mayweather, defends his WBA and interim WBC middleweight titles against Willie Monroe Jr. in Inglewood, California on May 16 (May 17 in PH).
The 5-foot-10 slugger is being teased as a potential opponent of WBC middleweight titleholder Miguel Cotto, who also trains under the tutelage of Roach.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao seeks to unify his WBO welterweight championship that he reclaimed from Timothy Bradley Jr. in April 2014 with Mayweather’s WBA and WBC-versions of the 147-pound division’s top prize.
In addition, a WBC emerald green and diamond-encrusted belt will also be fastened around the waist of either Pacquiao or Mayweather at the conclusion of their heavily-hyped confrontation.
