FC Barcelona Escola Camp returns for 2nd edition
MANILA, Philippines -- The FC Barcelona Escola Camp is back in the Philippines for a second go-around.
With FCB Escola Director General Xevi Marce in attendance, organizers of the FC Barcelona Escola Camp announced in a press conference on Friday, September 27 that a second training camp will be held in December this year.
The camp, slated December 18-22 at the Emperador Stadium at the Bonifacio Global City, will feature the development of football skills and methodology to be delivered by trainers from FC Barcelona, unarguably one of the most successful and popular football clubs in the planet.
"Philippine football's resurgence and growth has proven to be a milestone," said head organizer Michael Reyes. "We are pleased that FC Barcelona's philosophy training and methodology will be passed on to more children as well as local coaches."
Around 150 kids from the Philippines, Cambodia and Australia participated in the first FCB Escola Camp last April, where two football coaches from Barcelona and six from the country honed the children's skills.
This year's edition will be available for kids ages 6 to 14 and there will be 144 slots open for participants.
FC Barcelona school in PH?
"It's amazing to have coaches from the best football school in the world in Philippine shores and training our children," added Nicholas Reyes, co-head organizer. "We are dedicated in growing and developing football one step at a time through world-class training of the youth."
And while the FCB Escola's stint in the Philippines hasn't been long yet, Merce said they are considering putting up a school in the country.
"We are studying the possibilities," Merce said. "We feel excited about the development of football in the Philippines."
"We want to be part of that." - Rappler.com
