Schrock, Cagara admit Dooley reason behind departure from Azkals
MANILA, Philippines – National team standouts Stephan Schrock and Dennis Cagara announced that they would not be suiting up for the Azkals any time soon through their social media accounts on Monday night, August 4.
Schrock, who informed the management of the team about his resignation earlier, revealed that he will not play for the country as long as Thomas Dooley is a the helm of the team.
“I wanna be honest to you, cause you deserve the truth. As long as [Coach Dooley] will lead the team I won't wear the jersey of Azkals again,” he said via his Facebook fan page.
Dooley, a former American national soccer team standout took over the squad last January after the exit of Hans Michael Weiss.
Schrock told German news outlet Nurnberger Zeitung that things have to change before he considers a return to the Azkals. “But it must change some things that I have addressed internally. And some gentlemen of the Association must understand that you can not handle disrespectful with older players, "Schrock said
The Fil-German midfielder also stated that his departure from the national squad is temporary adding that he is looking forward to representing the country again in the near future.
“It's not true that I don’t wanna play for [the] Philippines anymore. It was always a pleasure for me and I feel still honored to have the possibility to play for my country, the country where my heart belongs,” he clarified.
Meanwhile, amidst the announcement of Schrock, Fil-Danish defender Cagara revealed through his Twitter account that he will also take an indefinite break from Azkals duty due to Dooley.
“Dooley is also the reason why I won't play for the Azkals for the moment,” Cagara held.

Cagara, who plays for the Lyngby Boldklub in the Danish first division, has a total of 14 appearances for the Philippines since 2011.
