Loyola, Stallion slip past UFL foes

MANILA, Philippines – Loyola Meralco Sparks FC and Stallion FC both slashed three points onto their belts after inching away from their opponents during the second game day of the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Sunday, February 8.

Newly crowned national clubs champs Loyola FC started their campaign in the league in a slow manner after posting a 1-0 win over Team Socceroo FC. 

Both teams were sluggish during the start of the match as no goals were sank until the 65th minute when Jamal Fenelon found the back of the net to tally the only goal for the two sides.

According to Sparks’ head coach Simon Mcmenemy, although they had 65%-35% edge on possession, his men really had a tough time finding gaps on Socceroo’s tight defense 

“I think we thoroughly dominated the game in terms of possession but when you go against a team that is prepared to put 6 men behind the ball at all times, it really makes it difficult to find holes to play in.”

Meanwhile, Stallion FC sneaked past Pachanga Diliman FC, 1-0, to tally a win during their first outing of the season.

The match went relatively silent for the greater portion of the bout with Stallion only having a slight advantage over Pachanga on the total possession count.

As regulation neared its end, Azkals standout Simone Rota managed to break the goal-less deadlock after tipping the ball in deep in Pachanga territory to snatch the victory for his club. – Rappler.com
