CM Punk’s first UFC opponent named

MANILA, Philippines – Former WWE star CM Punk finally has an opponent for his UFC debut.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, will face upstart Mickey Gall at a date to be announced, it was confirmed during UFC Fight Night 82 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 7 Manila time.

The 24-year-old welterweight Gall (2-0) defeated Mike Jackson by rear-naked choke in 45 seconds before calling out CM Punk.

“I want to be fed, I’m hungry. Feed me CM Punk, please,” said Gall, of New Brunswick, N.J.

Punk, who is 13 years older at 37, signed with the mixed martial arts company in December 2014 but his debut had been delayed due to injuries. Punk also lacked any substantial MMA experience but has been training out of Roufusport MMA in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Punk was impressed, but wants to make Gall ‘go to sleep’ when they fight.

“It was very impressive, that’s how I want to win a fight,” Punk said of Gall’s performance, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “That’s got to be great feeling and I’ll find out after I beat Mickey Gall.”

Dana White tells ESPN that the fight will likely take place at UFC 199 in June. – Rappler.com
