ANTIPOLO, Philippines – The PetroGazz Angels proved why they deserved the No. 1 berth.

The Angels conquered the Creamline Cool Smashers in 4 sets, 25-15, 28-30, 25-23, 25-19, in the do-or-die showdown to capture their first championship in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference on Sunday, July 14, at the Ynares Center here.

Finals MVP Janisa Johnson again took charge in the thrilling Game 3 as the Angels – who debuted in the league just last year – dethroned the powerhouse Creamline squad bannered by conference MVP Alyssa Valdez. 

Wilma Salas topscored with 30 points off 26 attacks and 4 blocks while Johnson chipped in 23 points to lead a gritty PetroGazz side that rose from a 0-1 series deficit.

After PetroGazz dominated Creamline in the opening set, the Cool Smashers slowly climbed back into form in the 2nd frame where they rallied from a six-point deficit to extend the set.

Four set points later, Creamline managed to even the match at one apiece after a gritty 30-28 set win.

Both teams continued to fight tooth-and-nail for the the lead in the 3rd set, but Salas closed out the crucial frame, 25-23, to give the Angels a 2-1 match advantage.
