V-League: Lady Agilas deny San Sebastian quarterfinal slot
MANILA, Philippines – Venus Flores and May Agton scored 15 points apiece to lead the Davao Lady Agilas to a straight sets victory over the San Sebastian College Lady Stags, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23, to wrap up their Shakey’s V-League Season 11 First Conference preliminary stage campaign, Tuesday, April 29, at the Filoil Flying-V Arena in San Juan City.
The Davao-based crew bounced back from a stinging four-frame setback to University of Santo Tomas and now clinches shared solo lead of Pool B with National University at four wins and a defeat.
After combining for 28 markers in their last outing, Flores and Agton continue to roll for the Lady Agilas as they delivered in the scoring department once more and limited all but one Lady Stag to less than 10 points in their last elimination match in this conference.
San Sebastian put up a tough resistance as Gretchell Soltones led the Lady Stags’ losing cause with 10 points but it was not enough as the Lady Agilas were able to close out each set with solid composure down the stretch.
Jocemer Tapic and Angel Mae Antipuesto connived for 18 points for Davao while Irish Dignadice and Reynelen Raterta pitched in seven and five digs respectively.
The loss knocks San Sebastian out of contention early, finishing the eliminations with a 1-4 win-loss card.
Completing Pool B’s quarterfinalists are Far Eastern University and UST while Ateneo de Manila, Arellano, Adamson, and College of Saint Benilde comprise Pool A’s playoffs cast.
