Lakers superstar LeBron James to sit out vs Kings

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James will miss his first game of the season on Wednesday, March 3 (Thursday, March 4, Manila time) when the Lakers take on the Sacramento Kings, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.

According to Charania, James’ absence will not affect his appearance in the NBA All-Star Game on Monday, Manila time, where he will serve as an All-Star team captain for the fourth consecutive year.

James has been carrying the scoring load for the undermanned Lakers thus far as they are playing without Anthony Davis due to an Achilles tendon injury. The four-time league MVP finished with 38 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists in the Lakers’ 114-104 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.

Without Davis in the lineup, the Lakers have lost 6 of their last 10 games and have moved down to the third spot in the Western Conference standings despite huge performances by the 36-year-old James.

James is currently averaging 25.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 7.8 assists in 36 games for the defending champion Lakers this season.

Aside from Davis and James, the Lakers are also missing the services of center Marc Gasol due to health and safety protocols, and forward Kyle Kuzma due to a right heel contusion.

With 4 key players out, the banged-up Lakers will now rely on Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope when they face the Kings in their last game before the much-needed All-Star break. – Rappler.com
