Abueva listed in Phoenix’s team lineup in PBA bubble conference
Calvin Abueva gets a thumbs up to play in the PBA as he processes his requirements to get his pro license back

Calvin Abueva is formally eligible for a PBA return as he gets listed in Phoenix’s team lineup for the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup restart.

The development comes after reports said that the PBA initially barred the Fuel Masters from including Abueva in their 14-man line-up

However, Abueva is still waiting for the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) to reinstate his pro license in order for him to get a green light to play in the PBA.

Abueva is currently undergoing GAB’s three-day professional athlete’s code of conduct and ethical standards seminar which commenced Tuesday, October 6.

“Based on our pre-assessment, he seems to have a basic understanding of the concepts of the conduct and ethics required of a professional athlete inside the basketball court,” said GAB staff Kara Mallonga in an update sent to chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra.

“He duly emphasized how due process and mental health support was important in maintaining a good sense of self of a professional athlete.”

Aside from the seminar, Abueva will undergo a mandatory drug test to serve as part of the medical requirements.

The PBA slapped the 32-year-old star with an indefinite ban during the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, following separate incidents involving Bobby Park’s girlfriend Maika Rivera and former Talk ‘N Text import Terrence Jones.

GAB immediately followed PBA’s decision and revoked Abueva’s licence days after the suspension and investigated reports of Abueva’s participation in a “ligang-labas.”

Recently, Abueva was allowed by the PBA to participate in Phoenix’s practice inside the bubble in Clark, Pampanga. – Rappler.com
