Alex Eala opened her 2020 Roland Garros bid with a come-from-behind win to advance to the 2nd round of the juniors tournament on Sunday, October 4 (Monday, October 5, Manila time) in Paris, France.

Eala rallied from 0-4 down in the first set against Hungarian foe Natalia Szabanin before hacking out a 6-4, 6-1 victory to advance to the second round of the tournament.

The Filipina teen tennis sensation will face Germany’s Mara Guth, who ranks world No. 56 in the juniors circuit, in the next round.

The 15-year-old Filipina won a total of 66 points to Szabanin’s 42 points, while converting 7-of-9 break points.

World No. 4 Eala hopes to continue her momentum from her title romp in the 2020 Australian Open juniors doubles tournament, which she ruled together with Indonesian Priska Nugroho.

Eala, a scholar of Rafa Nadal Academy, will kick off her 2020 French Open juniors doubles tournament with American partner Elvina Kalieva on Monday.

The 3rd seeded duo will face the Italian pair of Lisa Pigato and Eleonora Alvisi. – Rappler.com
