Cagayan Valley ends Palaro football campaign with consolation win over Central Luzon

LAGUNA, Philippines – Cagayan Valley will not go home winless. 

Region II snapped out of a nightmarish Palarong Pambansa start as they walloped Central Luzon, 6-1, in the secondary football contention, Wednesday, May 7, at the Laguna State Polytechnic University in Sta. Cruz. 

Dropping their past two matches – a 2-9 beating from Central Visayas and a 0-6 result against Zamboanga – Cagayan Valley wraps up their elimination round campaign at 1-2 but it was not enough for them to advance to the quarterfinals. 

Region II – which never made it to the podium in the past six years – banked on George Arcangel as he scored a hat trick to end their Palaro campaign on a high note.

In a virtually non-bearing match between two eliminated teams, Cagayan Valley found themselves ahead just two minutes after the opening whistle as Domingo Badet opened the scoring from a goal-mouth scramble.

Badet then doubled his production in the 17^th when he drilled one in off a counterattack for 2-nil.

Arcangel then scored three consecutive goals to assure Cagayan Valley’s win but Owen Louise Pere notched a consolation goal for Central Luzon 76 minutes into the match.

Erico Gacutan wrapped up the game with a spectacular goal from inside the box in the dying moments of the game.

Central Visayas secures the top spot in Bracket B with three wins in as many games while Zamboanga completes their bracket’s quarterfinalists with a 2-1 slate.
