Palaro 2014 basketball roundup: Days 3-4

LAGUNA, Philippines – The quarterfinals cast is complete.

After four days of grueling elimination action in basketball competitions of the 2014 Palarong Pambansa, only 8 squads per division will have the opportunity to end up in the podium.

In the final day of elimination, hosts CALABARZON survived a dismal first half before blasting Soccsksargen, 111-78 in Bracket C, National Capital Region remained unscathed by trouncing ARMM, 101-54 in Bracket B, while defending secondary boys hoops champion Central Visayas sent a strong message after a statement win over MIMAROPA, 124-55, in Bracket A.

All three swept their elimination campaigns for unblemished records in four days. Western Visayas of Bracket D is playing Northern Mindanao as of posting time but will emerge as the Bracket D top seed no matter what happens.

The four teams made the Final Four last year in Dumaguete and are expected to make the semifinals. However, four more crews – Central Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, and Eastern Visayas – will try to change the landscape of the semifinals.
