NCR veteran softballl pitcher discovers new family in Palaro 2015
NCR's Kevyn Lacson plays with her rivals in the National Capital Region but she still manages to get along

TAGUM CITY, Philippines – Four years.

Since 2010, National Capital Region pitcher Kevyn Anne Lacson has been with the Muntinlupa softbelles – this is her team. Her home.

The 16-year old Kevyn played with the Muntinlupa Little Leaguers and Domingo Lacson National High School ever since she swung her first bat. This is where she fits in.

“I’ve been with them [Muntinlupa squad] since my first time,” said Lacson, who is now on her fifth Palarong Pambansa stint. “I’m really close with the team.”

In the 2015 Palarong Pambansa, however, Lacson lands on the enemy’s territory.

“We played against Makati during the regional meet and our team lost,” said Lacson.
“That’s why I’m not with my teammates this year.”

With that, Lacson thought she wouldn’t make it to Tagum City and seal her Palaro journey with another medal.

But fate somehow managed to find a way.

“Makati had to choose three representatives from our division,” explained Lacson. “I was one of the three girls.”

For the love of softball, Lacson decided to go.

New family

According to Lacson, this is her first time playing without the squad. The good news, she’ll be playing with girls she is most familiar with.

The bad news? Lacson is teamed up with her rivals back in Manila.

“I’ve been playing against them [Makati] for almost 5 years now,” shared Kevyn. “I know them because we see each other in tournaments.”

Lacson thought her final year in the biggest multi-sporting grassroots of the country would be a bad mixture of experiences both in and out of the field. But what happened was a pleasant surprise.

“They are really nice and fun,” Lacson said. “It just goes to show that sports in general brings people together and create new relationships.”

After falling short for two years in the tourney, Lacson is hopeful they will make a legendary home run and free NCR from their silver-medal spell.

“Sports is all about good sportsmanship and building people. I also got lucky, I found my extended family,” Lacson cheerfully said.

Lacson might be miles away from her comfort zone but she is still home. – Rappler.com
